Sporting Lisbon commence talks to rename their stadium after Cristiano Ronaldo

– Ronaldo already has an international airport named after him back in his hometown Sporting Lisbon are reportedly in talks to rename their stadium after Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.


The Primeira Liga giants are said to be considering renaming the current ‘Jose Alvalade’ stadium to either ‘CR7 Stadium’ or ‘Alvalade CR7.’

Club president, Frederico Varandas, is understood to have already initiated talks with Cristiano Ronaldo’s entourage about the idea.

According to respected Portuguese news outlet O Jogo, the club’s board members are also reported to be open to the decision having ratified the initial plan. The renaming of the facility seeks to celebrate the former Manchester United forward’s legacy at the club where he started his footballing career.

Ronaldo joined Sporting CP in 1997 as a youngster and rose through the ranks to make his debut with the senior team in 2002.

He later moved to the Premier League with Manchester United, before sealing a sensational move to Real Madrid where he enjoyed an illustrious career.

The Juventus forward’s success in football has seen him become an iconic figure in his home town of Madeira, where he already has an international airport, a museum and hotel named after him.
