Top 10 Best Footballers Who Never Played In a World Cup

We are now presenting the top 10 best footballers who never played in a world cup.

10. Nicolas Anelka

His CV and his total transfer fees combined make it incredible that Anelka has yet to play at a World Cup. He made his debut prior to the 1998 World Cup but was not selected for the squad who went on to win the tournament. He fell out of favour with the French management between 2001 and 2007 therefore missing out on two more world cups. He signed for Arsenal (£500,000) in 1997 as a teenager and from there went on to play for Real Madrid (£22.3m), Paris St. Germain (£20m), Manchester City (£13m), Bolton Wanderers (£8m) and Chelsea (£15m), as well as a loan spell at Liverpool. His combined transfer fees make him one of the most expensive footballers of all time. However, he remains in contention to play at the 2010 World Cup should France qualify.

9. Matt Le Tissier

A combination of remaining loyal to his beloved Southampton and playing in a generation of great English strikers probably cost Le Tissier his chance to feature at a World Cup. England failed to qualify in 1994 but Le Tissier’s best chance was probably in 1998. His Southampton side were perennial strugglers in the Premier League, and the likes of Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham and Andrew Cole made sure Le Tissier was overlooked.

8. Johnny Giles

Giles played in the heart of midfield for a Leeds United side in the 1970’s, who were the Manchester United of their day. Despite playing 60 times for his country Giles failed to grace a World Cup as either a player or a manager.

7. Ian Rush

The second Welshman on the list, Rush made his name with Liverpool in the 80’s and 90’s but his quality alo saw him play abroad for the likes of Juventus. He had an impressive international record coring 28 goals in 73 games for Wales, and his proudest moment came when he scored the winner in a European Qualifier against Germany in 1991. Wales narrowly missed out on qualification for the 1992 European Championships, as they did for the 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1994 World Cups.

6. George Weah

Weah was voted African Player of the Year in 1989, 1994 and 1995 and European and World Footballer of the Year in 1995. Weah enjoed his best years in France with Monaco and Paris St. Germain, and in Italy with AC Milan between 1988 and 2000. Unfortunately, like Best and Giggs he came from Liberia, another footballing minnow who as yet have failed to make a World Cup.

5. Eric Cantona

Another Manchester United legend, Cantona made his France debut in 1987. However, he fell out with the French coach and failed to make the squad for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. In 1994 France sensationally failed to qualify and Cantona then retired in 1997, aged 31 to pursue a career as an actor. France won the World Cup in 1998 on home soil, but it is debateable as to whether or not Cantona would have featured.

4. Duncan Edwards

Duncan Edwards was considered one of the greatest of his generation. One of the Busby Babes Edwards was tragically killed in the Munich air disaster of 1958. He failed to play at a World Cup for England, but probably would have played for them in 1966, when they won the tournament for the one and only time in their history.

3. Ryan Giggs

Giggs makes no.3 on the list due to the length and consistency of his career. Giggs made his debut in 1991, and to this day remains with the same club Manchester United. During his time he has won 11 English Premierships and 2 European Cups. Giggs comes from Wales who have only ever qualified for 1 World Cup in 1958.

2. Alfredo Di Stefano

Alfredo-Di-Stefano 20180Di Stefano legend for Real Madrid at club level, Di Stefano mysteriously played for Argentina, Colombia and Spain at international level. Di Stefano was unfortunate to miss the World Cup with Argentina in 1950. In 1954 he was denied permission to play for Spain at the World Cup having represented both Argentina and Colombia. He was later granted permission to play for Spain but they missed the 1958 World Cup and in 1962 injury once again prevented him from playing on the worlds bigest stage. His failure to appear at a World Cup probably prevented him from being compared with Pele, Cruyff and Maradona as one of the greatest.

1 George Best

Best was not only the best player to never make a World Cup, but for many the greatest player of all time. Unfortunately for Best he was a native of Northern Ireland who are relative minnows of international football and haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 1986. Best enjoyed his best years at Manchester United, the highlight being a European Cup winners medal in 1968. However, Best was as well known for his scoring off the pitch as he was on it. After a series of personal problems he left Manchester United in 1974 for good, aged just 27. Despite playing for a number of other clubs Best never recaptured his finest form and failed to play for Northern Ireland at the 1982 or 1986 World Cup. Best died in 2005 following a long battle with alcoholism.

Black Footballers Playing In Brazil Have Been Victims Of Racism

The survey, based on information collected anonymously from 163 black players in the top four divisions of Brazilian football, shows that 48.1% of those surveyed have experienced racism in their sport.

For 92.4% of them, the episode of racism took place in a stadium, 6.3% in the facilities of their club and 1.3% in a hotel.

We, the players, are doing what we can, what is within our reach, to make it stop. But this responsibility mainly falls to the federations

But 87.8% of these footballers claim not to have denounced the acts of racism of which they were victims.

With regard to the measures to be adopted to combat this scourge, 39% of those polled consider that the perpetrators of acts of racism should be punished, 27.7% recommend the implementation of educational campaigns and 19.5% would like the clubs are sanctioned.

Brazil, of which 54% of the population is black or mestizo, is far from being spared from the problems of racism in stadiums, where scandals are increasing.

On Sunday, a video showed an Atlético Mineiro supporter in Belo Horizonte attacking a black steward shouting: “don’t touch me, look at your skin color!”

Brazilian footballers are also frequently victims of racism abroad.

Also on Sunday, Shakhtar Donetsk captain Taison was the target of racist shouts from Dynamo Kiev supporters and the referee then kicked him out for sending the ball to the stands.

The player left the lawn crying, comforted by players from his Shakhtar and Dynamo teams.

Monday, William, a black Chelsea player who played for Shakhtar (2013-2017), was moved by the situation of his compatriot during a press conference of the Brazilian selection.

“Racism continues to claim lives, not only in football, but in other areas as well. It makes us really uncomfortable to see players cry, I hope it will end once and for all, “he said.

We, the players, are doing what we can, what is within our reach, to make it stop. But this responsibility belongs above all to the federations

Liverpool remains Undefeated For A Year After Beating Sheffield United

Liverpool made it an entire calendar year without a Premier League defeat as the runaway leaders beat Sheffield United 2-0 on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side moved 13 points clear of second-placed Leicester thanks to goals from Egypt forward Mohamed Salah and Senegal winger Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Liverpool’s 19th win in 20 league games this season completed an incredible 12 months for a team at the peak of their powers.

The Reds haven’t lost in 37 league games since a defeat at Manchester City on January 3, 2019, and it looks certain they will win the English title for the first time since 1990.

With a game in hand to further bolster their advantage, it would take an astonishing collapse to deprive Liverpool of their holy grail.

Winners of their last 18 home league games, Liverpool are unbeaten in 51 top-flight matches at Anfield dating back to April 2017.

A Brief History Of Football

According to FIFA, the Chinese competitive game cuju (蹴鞠, literally “kick ball”) is the earliest form of football for which there is evidence.

Cuju players could use any part of the body apart from hands and the intent was kicking a ball through an opening into a net. It was remarkably similar to modern football, though similarities to rugby occurred.

During the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD), cuju games were standardised and rules were established.

Phaininda and episkyros were Greek ball games.

An image of an episkyros player depicted in low relief on a vase at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens appears on the UEFA European Championship Cup.

Athenaeus, writing in 228 AD, referenced the Roman ball game harpastum. Phaininda, episkyros and harpastum were played involving hands and violence. They all appear to have resembled rugby football, wrestling and volleyball more than what is recognizable as modern football.

As with pre-codified “mob football”, the antecedent of all modern football codes, these three games involved more handling the ball than kicking. Other games included kemari in Japan and chuk-guk in Korea.

Association football in itself does not have a classical history. Notwithstanding any similarities to other ball games played around the world FIFA has recognised that no historical connection exists with any game played in antiquity outside Europe.

The modern rules of association football are based on the mid-19th century efforts to standardise the widely varying forms of football played in the public schools of England. The history of football in England dates back to at least the eighth century AD.

The Cambridge Rules, first drawn up at Cambridge University in 1848, were particularly influential in the development of subsequent codes, including association football.

The Cambridge Rules were written at Trinity College, Cambridge, at a meeting attended by representatives from Eton, Harrow, Rugby, Winchester and Shrewsbury schools.

They were not universally adopted. During the 1850s, many clubs unconnected to schools or universities were formed throughout the English-speaking world, to play various forms of football.

Some came up with their own distinct codes of rules, most notably the Sheffield Football Club, formed by former public school pupils in 1857, which led to formation of a Sheffield FA in 1867. In 1862, John Charles Thring of Uppingham School also devised an influential set of rules.

These ongoing efforts contributed to the formation of The Football Association (The FA) in 1863, which first met on the morning of 26 October 1863 at the Freemasons’ Tavern in Great Queen Street, London. The only school to be represented on this occasion was Charterhouse.

The Freemason’s Tavern was the setting for five more meetings between October and December, which eventually produced the first comprehensive set of rules.

At the final meeting, the first FA treasurer, the representative from Blackheath, withdrew his club from the FA over the removal of two draft rules at the previous meeting:

the first allowed for running with the ball in hand; the second for obstructing such a run by hacking (kicking an opponent in the shins), tripping and holding. Other English rugby clubs followed this lead and did not join the FA and instead in 1871 formed the Rugby Football Union.

The eleven remaining clubs, under the charge of Ebenezer Cobb Morley, went on to ratify the original thirteen laws of the game.

These rules included handling of the ball by “marks” and the lack of a crossbar, rules which made it remarkably similar to Victorian rules football being developed at that time in Australia.

The Sheffield FA played by its own rules until the 1870s with the FA absorbing some of its rules until there was little difference between the games.

The world’s oldest football competition is the FA Cup, which was founded by C.W. Alcock and has been contested by English teams since 1872.

The first official international football match also took place in 1872, between Scotland and England in Glasgow, again at the instigation of C.W. Alcock.

England is also home to the world’s first football league, which was founded in Birmingham in 1888 by Aston Villa director William McGregor. The original format contained 12 clubs from the Midlands and Northern England.

All About Manchester United 250 Million Euros January Transfer Budjet

Ole Gunnar Solskjear’s Manchester United was held to a 1–1 draw by Duncan Ferguson’s Everton at Old Trafford On Sunday. But the Red Devils still looks like a team under construction which requires some reinforcements either in the January transfer window or in the summer.

Manchester United’s Edward Woodward has since make available the sum of £250 million transfer budjet available for the signing of some new faces which will add some strength in depth to Solskjear team in January. Not only this but also, Solskjear has informed the club’s hierarchy that new players are needed to be brought to the team if the Red Devils are to challenge for the qualification of the UEFA Champions league come this season.

The manager has also come out and say that the club will strengthen during the opening of any transfer window where they deemed it fit. He said it in a statement:

“I’d been watching. I had a clear idea of what a Man United team should look like,” Solskjaer said. “I have been part of a Man United team and you do want to go back to our traditions of attacking quick, attacking football with pace, power, personalities out there. And that is what we are doing.

“Obviously we are one or two players down in numbers but it doesnt have to be this window, it might be the summer window. But we are going to strengthen.

“We are going to get starters into this team. We need to.”

It is understood that Ole Gunnar Solskjear has forwarded the lists of players he wants in the January transfer window to the Red Devils Chief Ed Woodward. The names sent to him includes Ealing Braut Haaland of RB Salzburg, Jadon Sancho Borrusia Dortmund, Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, Bruno Fernandes of Sporting Lisbon Lotauro Martinez of Inter Milan and Leandro Peredes of Paris Saint Germain.

Out of these aforementioned names only four of the players can be seen as a potential United’s players. The Norwegian hotshot Braut Haaland of RB Salzburg and Jadon Sancho of Dortmund are the two potential deals which United are capable of pulling over the lines in January. It is gathered that several clubs were interested in the young Norwegian striker {Haaland}, but Solskjear has since met with Harland’s representatives over the last couple of days to discuss his move to Old Trafford. Haaland has however decided to play for Solskjear and Manchester United secretly.

On the other hand Jadon Sancho’s situation at Borussia Dortmund has been under the cloud recently, as a result of that he has also made his final decision to leave the Signal Iduna Park in January. United are also waiting to pounce if Borussia Dortmund grant him and his representatives the permission to discuss a potential move with United.

SSC Napoli are not expected to easily part company with their captain Kalidou Koulibaly as soon as possible as they will be looking to close the gap on the Seria A standings and also go far beyond the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions league.

Bruno Fernandes just signed a new long-term contract with Sporting Lisbon he’s not expected to leave the Portuguese league soon enough. Lotauro Martinez partnership with former United Striker Romelu Lukaku has started to yield some result for Inter Milan this season in all competitions, but if a club like Manchester United came calling and also met his contract release clause of £92 million then Inter Milan will have their work cut out to keep hold of their prized asset.

Meanwhile, the Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes has recently been linked with United. He could join the Red Devils in January transfer window for £120 million double swoop with Lotauro Martinez. Apart from Haaland and Jadon Sancho’s potential January move to United Lotauro Martinez and Peredes of PSG are also the two likeliest players that are ready to move in the January transfer window if their valuations are met by united team’s hierarchy.

Signing of all these a fore mentioned names might also depend on Pogba’s decision in January. But with or without Pogba in United’s team Solskjear has highlighted the needs to recruits new players in the January transfer window and the funds is there for him to utilize if any of these aforementioned players becomes available for the right price.

3 Reasons Why Chelsea Lost To Bournemouth 0-1

Apart from an early chance for Mason Mount and a couple of glancing headers from Tammy Abraham, the hosts barely mustered any openings. Eddie Howe, who deserves to bide his time in a potential turnaround process, stacked his midfield with Jefferson Lerma mainly deployed as a ball-winner.

His side relied on their pace in counters and applied a more pragmatic approach to the game. While it eventually resulted in a tactical masterclass, most of the match transpired as a cagey, dodgy affair. On that note, we analyse what went wrong for Chelsea as they fell to another defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Here are the three main reasons Chelsea lost to Bournemouth on Sunday according to Sport keeda:

3. Kepa’s miscalculation and shoddy run of form

Kepa has been a bit of a letdown for Chelsea this season
Kepa has been a bit of a letdown for Chelsea this season

It’s hard to imagine such a drastic drop in the performance levels of a goalkeeper who adapted to life in England like a fish to water. He was up there, making last-ditch saves, winning points for his team and saving penalties with remarkable forecasting skill.

But Kepa Arrizabalaga this season, has looked a completely different, under-confident proposition between the sticks. It’s been too soft from the Spaniard, who has made some shabby errors at the back, allowed goals in way too easily and been rather substandard with his passing.

It all came to fore when Bournemouth, on the back of serious penetration into the Chelsea box, fired in a tame effort towards the Chelsea shot-stopper. The young goalie dove to his right, but couldn’t even manage to collect the ball as ultimately, Cesar Azpilicueta had to clear.

The goal, with due respect to Gosling, was a moment of scintillating geometrical awareness, but Kepa could have done much better as his positioning was not up to standard. Often hesitant to spring off his line, Arrizabalaga was neither behind Gosling nor on his goal line. Indeed, he was left in no man’s land, giving himself absolutely no chance of smothering the looping effort.

2. Significant lapses in concentration at the back

With just two clean sheets all season in the league, one of the many obstacles faced by the young Chelsea side is quite obvious. The Blues struggle to defend set pieces, in particular. It’d be immensely essential to highlight the same later on, but a few errors the Chelsea back line commits is the space left behind the full backs, major lapses in concentration or simply schoolboy mistakes.

In corners and free-kicks, the team’s semblance looks rather static, owing to the strict zonal marking. There’s little tracking, even lesser attention paid to the minor details and a certain lack of distinct communication. Sometimes they fail to clear their lines or track the opposition bodies at the near post. Today, it was a matter of not winning the second balls.

Initially having shut out the danger, Chelsea, as soon as the headed clearance, should have stepped out of their lines as a team to catch the opposition team offside, something that backfired spectacularly. Bournemouth scored the only goal of the game courtesy of that momentary lapse in concentration, which doomed the Blues to their 4th loss in 5 Premier League games.

1. Lack of invention in the Bournemouth half

Chelsea’s Willian put forth another lacklustre staging at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea’s Willian put forth another lacklustre staging at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea picked more passes, got more involved as the game went on, but were largely flat-footed in terms of their penetration and transition. They lacked the burst of acceleration to go out and hurt Bournemouth on the break, for starters. It looked very rusty whenever the Blues tried to play out and leave the opponents behind.

They played a lot of balls from one end of the pitch to the other in the form of diagonals, but the visitors were well-equipped to handle that one-dimensional attacking framework. The likes of N’Golo Kante were sparingly used, apart from a couple of breaks. Fraser’s defensive work aided Gosling and Lerma in intercepting and reading more passes.

Willian and Pulisic remained absent from the game’s proceedings, failing to engineer a pin-point cross or any effort on goal. The latter was significantly out of the game as he rued for space and a possible interplay with Emerson.

Willian meanwhile, was simply horrendous with his corners and crossing. His decision-making was a major letdown, with the failure to deliver first-time crosses tantamount to the absence of a creative outlet.

Chelsea should have probed further and played with a bit more patience. Way too often, they tried to cut open the Bournemouth defence with a 15-20 yard passes, or with a diagonal. The momentum, as a result, continued to move in a stop-start fashion as Bournemouth had the last laugh.

Barkley and Batshuayi Clash in Chelsea training

Chelsea news takes a behind the scenes look at Fridays training session ahead of the Bournemouth game as Frank Lampard put the squad through their paces at the clubs base in Cobham

Spirits are high within the Chelsea squad ahead of this afternoons clash against Bournemouth.
That’s no surprise given the Blues are coming off a 2-1 win over Lille on Tuesday night which confirmed their place in the last-16 of the Champions League and they’ll find out their opponents next week.
With that said, the draw has to be put to one side as Frank Lampards side have the important matter of bouncing back from last weeks Premier League loss away at Everton when they host the Cherries.

Ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge the likes of Christian Pulisic , Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Mateo Kovacic and NGolo Kante were put through their paces at the clubs training base in Cobham.
And there was a situation developing between Ross Barkley and Michy Batshuayi .
Its unclear as to exactly what happens around the 3.33 minute mark in a behind the scenes of Chelsea’s training session video uploaded to the clubs you tube page
But the pair can be seen having a healthy debate over who was to blame for a pass being intercepted.
This is because the Belgian striker had to go in the middle for a mini game of rondo.

Throughout the whole clip defender Kurt Zuma appeared to be enjoying the mixup as he was smiling all the way through.

Meanwhile, Batshuayi time in the middle didn’t last all that long as he was soon replaced by NGolo Kante – who appeared to have not minded being one of two players tasked with intercepting the ball.

Both Batshuayi and Barkley will be hopeful of featuring against Cherries.

The striker was a substitute against Lille, while the latter returned to the squad following injury last week against Everton but didn’t feature and was left on the bench in midweek.

Its possible that Barkley gets a run out as Lampard had hinted at tinkering with his midfield.

Slightly, slightly. Yes, I agree with you. I am pleased with what we have in midfield. We also have Ruben coming back although it is not going to be that soon,” he said at his

pre-match press conference

I think with the schedule we have had, the amounts of games that we have played back-to-back then I think rotation a little bit is for the game and what is in front of us because sometimes you want to change the set up of how we look.
Also, just for the fatigue factor. to keep people fresh. I will certainly take that into account in midfield.

Will a vegan diet make someone a better athlete?

Healthline asked that question to David C. Nieman, DrPH, FACSM, a professor of health and exercise science and director of the Human Performance Laboratory at Appalachian State University in North Carolina, where he studies athletes and diet.

Nieman is a vegetarian and marathon runner who sees many reasons someone would want to become vegan. Still, he had a clear answer: No.

“The only possible way it [a vegan diet] may help some people is if they’re involved in a sport that takes more than an hour,” Nieman stated.

“And that’s only if they were on a low carb, high fat diet and switched to a vegan diet, which would mean they’d be taking in more carbs. Those people would see improvement in endurance not sports skill,” he said.

Studies on the correlation between performance and vegan, vegetarian, and meat-eating diets are rather limited.

Chelsea set to bid £100m For Borussia Dortmund Star “Jadon Sancho”

Chelsea set to bid club-record £100m for Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund star expected to leave Bundesliga side next summer.

Jadon Sancho will be Chelsea’s principal target now their transfer ban has been lifted, with expectation increasing that the England winger will chose Stamford Bridge next summer, when he is expected to move from Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea will have to pay a club record for the 19-year-old, likely to be around £100million, but will also try to sign a new centre forward, despite the rise of Tammy Abraham, with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner in their sights.

But it is Sancho who is likely to be the most exciting signing and, despite interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, the south Londoner raised in Kennington as a Chelsea fan looks highly likely to move to Stamford Bridge if Dortmund agree to sell.

Sancho is a close friend of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea want the pair to spearhead them for the next decade, with Christian Pulisic supplementing them.
Chelsea will also move for a left back and though Ben Chilwell would be the ideal candidate, he will be hard to prise from Leicester and they are likely to face competition from Manchester City.

Antoine Griezmann gave Barca a seventh-minute lead and Messi then took over with a couple of goals, either side of Ante Budimir’s strike against the run of play.

Luis Suarez added a fourth before the end of the first half with a sublime back-heel to round off a fluid passing move.

Budimir pulled another back for Mallorca 26 minutes from time, but Messi rounded off his hat-trick late on as Barca maintained their good form and overtook Real Madrid at the summit.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen gave a second assist of the season with a quick goal-kick that Griezmann collected and lifted over Manolo Reina after racing through on goal.
Reina produced an impressive save to keep out the returning Sergio Busquets’ header, but Messi found a way past the visiting keeper 95 seconds later with a 25-yard curler.

Mallorca, now winless in seven away league outings this season, gave themselves hope when Budimir’s shot deflected off Clement Lenglet and looped over Ter Stegen.

But Messi took matters into his own hands with a nice goal from range, before Suarez capped a fine piece of team play by back-heeling in from eight yards.
