Real Madrid Went Top Of La Liga After Beating Alaves 2-1

Real Madrid went top of La Liga for the time being as they battled hard to beat Alaves 2-1 away from home thanks to goals from Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal.

It was goalless at half time but the game kicked into life when Ramos scored a header and then conceded a penalty in 15 second-half minutes. Carvajal nicked it late on for Zinedine Zidane’s side with his first league goal of the season in the pouring Basque rain.

Fabinho: Liverpool midfielder out on till next year

Liverpool can confirm Fabinho suffered ankle ligament damage during the Champions League encounter with Napoli in midweek.

The midfielder injured after falling awkwardly during a challenge.Further assessment on the injury has discovered Fabinho will be out of action until the New Year.

The red team will have to play without fabinho the next match until he works his way back to full fitness.

The opening goal was converted by Thorgan Hazard in the early minutes of the game (19 minutes), Thorgan Hazard who is a brother to former Chelsea star and current Real Madrid player, Eden Hazard.

Eden Hazard placed the second and third goal of the game in the 33rd and 40th minutes respectively.

Former Manchester United star and current striker for AC Milan, Romelu Lukaku gave Belgium the fourth goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo moved closer to reaching 100 goals for his international career.

Portugal are now second with 14 points, one ahead of Serbia, and will qualify if they win in Luxembourg on Sunday. Leaders Ukraine have qualified.

Ronaldo was quick was quick off the mark, winning and converting a penalty in the seventh minute.

The 34-year-old got to the ball ahead of Saulius Mikoliunas, who clipped his heel, and converted the spot-kick with a shot into the middle of the goal which hit goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus’ foot on the way in.

Lithuania suffered more losss 15 minutes later as they lost the ball in midfield and Paciencia slipped the ball quickly to Ronaldo who produced a wicked, dipping first-time shot which flew past the bemused Setkus from 25 metres.

He had another shot on the turn saved by Setkus and blasted over after bursting into the box before the break.

Pizzi, Paciencia and Silva scored in an 11-minute spell after halftime and Ronaldo sent two efforts agonisingly wide as the siege continued.

Virgil van Dijk has won the 2018/19 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year for 2018/19.

The Dutch international beat off competition from three-time UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo and two-time winner Lionel Messi. The 28-year-old centre-back received the trophy on stage in Monaco during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw.
